Senegal’s Teranga Lions have joined the league of countries who have lifted the AFCON title twice after their latest feat in Morocco after lifting the 2025 AFCON.

Pape Thiaw’s side overcame a Morocco side charged by vociferous home fans were awarded a late penalty but wasted the opportunity after Edouard Mendy saved Brahim Diaz’s penanka.

The victory becomes Senegal’s second title in the history of the AFCON competition after winning their first title in the 2021 edition on Cameroon soil when they defeated record-winners Egypt in the final.

They have now joined Algeria (1990 & 2019) and DR Congo (1968 and 1974) who have won the title on two different occasions.

However, the West African powerhouse are still behind Nigeria (1980, 1994, 2013) and Ivory Coast (1992, 2015, 2023) who have won the prestigious competition three times apiece.

Despite not winning the title since 1982, Ghana has won the competition 4 times with Cameroon having 5 titles.

Egypt are the most successful nation in the history of the competition with 7 titles.
