    The Federation of Senegal Football (FSF) has announced that it has assumed full responsibility for the suspensions and fines imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their team’s misconduct in the AFCON final.

    The federation noted that after carefully reviewing CAF’s sanctions, it has accepted its shortcomings and will not appeal the decision.

    CAF bans Senegal coach Pape Thiaw for 5 matches, fines him $100K

    In a statement released by the federation, it was indicated that head coach of the Teranga Lions, Pape Thiaw, along with other players who were fined and suspended, will comply in order to safeguard the integrity of football on the continent.

    “The Federation of Senegalese Football (FSF) informs the national and international public that it has officially acknowledged decision DC23315 issued on January 28, 2026, by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). After analyzing said decision, the FSF notified the continental body of its intention not to appeal the sporting and financial sanctions imposed upon it. This waiver of appeal also applies to the individual disciplinary measures concerning: the National Team Coach, Pape Bouna Thiaw; and the national team players, Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye.

    “In accordance with the provisions of Article 91.4 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, the Senegalese Football Federation confirms that it assumes full financial responsibility for the fines imposed on its association, its technical staff, and its players. True to its principles, the FSF reaffirms its determination to defend its legitimate rights and interests within football’s governing bodies,” the statement read.

    Pape Bouna Thiaw – Suspended for five official CAF matches for unsporting conduct and fined $100,000.

    Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye – Suspended for two official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

    Ismaila Sarr – Suspended for two official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

    Federation of Senegal Football (FSF) –

    Fined $300,000 for improper conduct of supporters.

    Fined $300,000 for unsporting conduct of players and technical staff.

    Fined $15,000 for misconduct after five players received cautions.
