Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Chairman Wontumi said the NPP is at a critical moment and needs leadership that is stable, principled, and focused on unity.

“Our party has faced challenges and learned hard lessons along the way. At this critical moment, the NPP demands leadership that is steady, principled, and committed to unity,” he stated.

He said the party needs a leader who understands the grassroots and values all members, from party elders to the youth.

According to him, the next National Chairman must also be ready to make sacrifices for the growth of the party.

Chairman Wontumi explained that his decision to contest followed consultations with God and senior members of the party.

“I, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, having consulted my Maker and sought the counsel of party elders, hereby declare my intention to serve as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” he announced.

He stressed that his decision is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to rebuild and unify the party.

“I do so not for personal ambition, but to strengthen, rebuild, and unify our great party,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi noted that the journey ahead will require courage and firm leadership, especially at a time when difficult decisions may have to be made for the sake of the party.

“Leadership at this moment requires bravery, the courage to stand firm, make difficult decisions, and be willing to lose everything if necessary for the NPP,” he added.

He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the future, saying the NPP is organized and prepared for the task ahead.

“We are ready. We are organized. We are built for the battle ahead,” he declared.

Chairman Wontumi said his goal is to help restore confidence within the party, strengthen the grassroots, and position the NPP for victory in the 2028 general elections.

“Together, we will restore confidence, empower our grassroots, and position the NPP to win decisively in 2028,” he said.

He ended his statement with prayers for the party, Ghana’s democracy, and the nation.

“God bless the New Patriotic Party. God bless our democracy. God bless our motherland Ghana,” he concluded.
