Antoine Semenyo has spoken about Manchester City’s heavy defeat to Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The Ghana international made his long-awaited debut in Europe’s elite club competition on March 11, featuring for City in the first leg of the knockout tie. However, the milestone moment ended in disappointment as the English side suffered a 3–0 defeat in Madrid.

Despite the setback, Semenyo remained optimistic that City can respond strongly in the return leg and keep their hopes of progressing alive.

The London-born forward had missed the final two matches of the league phase due to registration regulations but finally got his opportunity to appear on the continent’s biggest club stage.

By stepping onto the Bernabéu pitch, Semenyo also achieved a notable milestone in his career. He became only the second player after Steve Finnan to feature at every level of English football—from non-league to the Premier League—before playing in the Champions League.

Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde proved decisive on the night, scoring a hat-trick to give the Spanish giants a commanding advantage ahead of the second leg.
