Efia Odo is an actress cum musician

Actress cum musician Efia Odo believes the Ghanaian music industry is its own enemy, arguing that selfishness among artistes is a stumbling block to growth.

She said progress will come when musicians work together as a collective rather than rivals.

In an interview with Ghana Weekend, Efia Odo noted that artistes need to recognize the collective nature of music and support one another rather than focusing only on individual gains.

“If I could change one thing about the Ghanaian music industry, it would be how we relate with each other. Everybody is doing selfish things. We are a collective, the music is for the people, not for us. We need to support each other more,” she said.

Efia Odo explained that if artistes share each other’s work and combine platforms, the industry would achieve big things.

She cited her large social media following and engagement as an example of untapped potential for collaboration.

“If I have 100,000 followers and another artiste has 100,000, and we share each other’s work, it only expands our reach. But selfishness is holding us back,” she noted.

Efia Odo also disclosed that she is now ready to commit fully to her music career.

According to her, she has made a deliberate decision to focus, consistent, and leave behind the scattered approach that once defined her brand.

“Now it’s just music. If you go on my page, I’ve archived almost everything off. I’m intentional about what I’m doing, and right now, I’m just giving you guys music back-to-back with consistency… Before, I was all over the place. It’s something I wanted to do, but I wasn’t 100%. But now, it’s just music,” she said.
