Security agencies in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho, have embarked on a joint route march through the principal streets of the municipality to demonstrate their preparedness to ensure peace, safety and security before, during, and after the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The exercise, which brought together personnel from various security institutions, formed part of measures to enhance public confidence, deter criminal activities and signal the readiness of the agencies to respond swiftly to emergencies throughout the yuletide.

Speaking to the media, Commodore James Adongo Agambire, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), said that the route march was a preventive measure aimed at reassuring the public and deterring criminal activities during the festive season.

He noted that the Christmas and New Year period is often characterised by increased human and vehicular movement, social gatherings, and heightened commercial activities, which can create opportunities for crime.

According to him, the march sends a strong signal of the visibility and readiness of security agencies to respond swiftly to any threats.

Commodore Agambire added that the exercise had also strengthened collaboration and operational coordination among the various security services.

He assured residents of Ho and surrounding communities that adequate security measures had been put in place before, during, and after the festive season, and urged the public to cooperate fully with security personnel by reporting any suspicious activities.

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, commended the various security agencies in the region for their strong collaboration and unwavering dedication to duty, particularly during the festive season.

He noted that the joint efforts and unity displayed by the agencies reflected their shared commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and security across the Volta Region.

Gunu urged the security services to sustain a high level of vigilance throughout the Christmas period, stressing that the increased social and commercial activities associated with the season required heightened alertness.

He emphasised that protecting lives and property remained a top priority and encouraged officers to continue working together to promptly address any security challenges that may arise.

The regional minister also reassured residents of the government’s support for the security agencies, calling on the public to cooperate fully with officers on duty.

He stated that effective security was a shared responsibility and appealed to citizens to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious activities to help ensure a peaceful and safe Christmas celebration in the region.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Volta Command, ADOI Hope Bedzrah, said the show of force was a clear indication of the commitment and readiness of security agencies to promptly respond to emergencies, including fire outbreaks and accidents, which were common during the festive season.

According to ADOI Hope Bedzrah, the exercise was also intended to assure the president, the sector minister and residents of the Volta Region that the Ghana National Fire Service, together with other security agencies, stood ready to deploy the necessary personnel and logistics to protect lives and property.

“This exercise demonstrates our commitment to safety and security. As officers of the Ghana National Fire Service, we are fully prepared to respond to any fire outbreak or accident that may occur during and after the festive season,” he said.

He appealed to residents, especially those in communities where emergency operations may be carried out, to support the work of security personnel by refraining from interfering with their duties.

“For us as security personnel, this is the time to up our game. Any lapse in alertness can lead to serious consequences. That is why we have come together to rekindle our collaborative spirit and strengthen our unity,” he noted.

He further urged the youth and the general public to remain security-conscious during the festivities, stressing that criminals often exploited moments when people lowered their guard.
