The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced it will intensify surveillance and operations at nightclubs, pubs, entertainment venues and public events across the country throughout the festive season.

The move is part of the Commission’s broader strategy to curb drug abuse, trafficking, and the distribution of illicit substances, particularly during periods of heightened social gatherings and celebrations.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director, Public Affairs and International Relations, highlighted the increased risks of drug abuse during festivities and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health, safety, and security through targeted enforcement and public education.

Operations will be conducted in collaboration with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies where necessary, focusing on:

Detecting and preventing the sale and use of illicit drugs

Ensuring compliance with national narcotics laws

Educating patrons and operators on the dangers of substance abuse

The Commission urged venue owners, event organisers, and hospitality operators to cooperate fully with authorised officers and take proactive steps to keep their premises drug-free.

Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities.

NACOC assured that all operations will be carried out professionally, with respect for human rights, while maintaining a firm stance against narcotics offences.

“Working together, we can ensure a safe, healthy, and enjoyable festive season for all,” the statement concluded.
