The search for a missing fisherman is continuing after a recreational fishing boat was found drifting off the Illawarra coast in NSW on Friday.

The emergency services were called to Windang Island near Warilla at about 6.40pm on Friday, after a 4metre Quintrex aluminium boat was found empty and drifting.

Officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District and Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW and PolAir, started a search for the 61-year-old owner who police believe was alone on the boat.

The search continued until 1am, and resumed at 6am on Saturday, with foot patrols of the shoreline conducted overnight without success.

The search resumed at 8am on Sunday, again involving officers from Lake Illawarra PD, Marine Area Command and PolAir, assisted by members from Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
