Sarkodie, a renowned Ghanaian rapper, has filed a lawsuit against Ecobank Ghana and his lookalike for unauthorized use of his image in an advertisement. The musician, who is a brand ambassador for First Bank, claims that Ecobank’s use of his lookalike in a promotional campaign misled the public into believing he endorsed the bank’s services, causing brand confusion and damaging his commercial partnerships.
Key Demands:
– Permanent Injunction: Sarkodie is seeking a court order to prevent Ecobank from using his image or likeness in any future advertisements.
– Damages: He is demanding compensation for reputational and financial damages resulting from the unauthorized use of his image.
– Removal of Advertisements: Sarkodie wants Ecobank to remove all promotional content featuring his lookalike.
Sarkodie’s legal team argues that using a lookalike of a public figure, especially one with existing endorsements, crosses ethical boundaries and jeopardizes their client’s professional integrity. Ecobank has been given eight days to respond to the court summons or risk a default judgment.
