Popular Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, has opened up about the moment he first heard the devastating news of Daddy Lumba’s death.

Speaking during a live Instagram session on September 1, 2025, which was later shared on X, Sarkodie revealed that he was behind the wheel when the call came through. The shock was so overwhelming that he immediately pulled over.

He recalled how difficult it was to process the news, given his deep admiration for the late musician. “If I had heard it from anywhere else, I wouldn’t have taken it seriously, but the person who called me, I actually parked because I was driving. I don’t know what came over me, but I started calling his phone. It was going through, but no one picked,” he said.

The following day, Sarkodie’s phone rang again, this time displaying Daddy Lumba’s number. What followed was both unsettling and heartbreaking. “The next morning, I saw his number calling me. It was a bit scary, but it was his wife, Odo Broni, who actually confirmed it,” he explained.

Reflecting on his relationship with Lumba, Sarkodie described him as more than just a musical idol. Daddy Lumba, he said, was like a mentor and father figure who generously offered guidance on the music industry.

“It was a privilege to be on a song with him, and I also had the opportunity to visit him at home. Sometimes he makes me come and speak to me about how the industry is and what I can learn from it,” Sarkodie stated.

“This is someone I look up to, so when I heard the news, I couldn’t doubt because of who called me,” he added.
