Sarkodie has opened up about the quiet influence pushing him beyond bars and into melody, naming dancehall artiste Shatta Wale as a key voice encouraging him to sing more on his records, even though he remains cautious about fully embracing that side of his artistry.
During an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, the popular Ghanaian rapper disclosed that he has recorded several unreleased tracks that lean entirely on melody rather than rap.
He explained that Shatta Wale has repeatedly urged him to explore that sound without hesitation.
“One person who pushes me to do more [singing] is Shatta Wale. When I did this one I sent it to him. Not only that there are about three of such songs I have recorded; one I sang throughout. But I was very uncomfortable with it because I will write it but putting it out is difficult for me to do. And that he said no, this is the next phase you should do,” Sarkodie said.

Although widely celebrated for his lyrical precision and dominance as a rapper, Sarkodie has occasionally blended singing and melodic flows into his music.
