Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie’s upcoming “Rapperholic UK Edition” has made history by selling out the prestigious 5,272-seat Royal Albert Hall in London weeks before the March 6 concert.

However, popular DJ and radio personality DJ Slim has stated that while Sarkodie deserves credit, the venue is still far too small for an artist of his stature after 15 years in the industry.

In a critique shared on his YouTube channel, DJ Slim applauded Sarkodie for selling out the venue but called it an underwhelming milestone.

“Sarkodie is bigger than a 5000-capacity venue. He is a stadium artiste… If at this point, we are still looking at 5000 and 6000 capacity as something we are settling on… Are we saying that it took one of our A-list artistes 15 years to sell out a 5000-capacity venue in the UK?” DJ Slim stated.

He argued that in a “proper industry”, such capacities should be the ceiling for emerging artistes, not a veteran like Sarkodie.

“I’m not saying he hasn’t done well; Sark has done well for him to sell out a 5000-capacity venue in the UK.

“What I’m saying is that if we had a proper industry, that 5000 capacity should be the aim of young artistes like AratheJay,” he noted.

The personality further placed the blame on the Ghanaian audience overseas, who hardly attend Ghanaian shows or even decide to come late to such events.

“Let’s not blame the artistes. Let’s blame the attitudes of the Ghanaian audience overseas,” he added.

This comment follows complaints from other Ghanaian musicians.

In 2024, singer Fameye lamented that Ghanaians abroad often do not attend their fellow citizens’ shows with the same energy they reserve for Nigerian artistes.

The Rapperholic brand, which began as an annual concert in Accra, has successfully transformed into an international franchise.

Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo, will perform at the iconic venue that has hosted legends like The Beatles and Adele.

The sold-out event, strategically scheduled for Ghana’s Independence Day, was sold out within a week after tickets were made available.
