Head coach of Berekum Chelsea, Samuel Boadu, voiced out his dissatisfaction with the officiating by referee Mawuli Klu and his assistants, despite his team’s 2-1 victory over Medeama in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, January 19, 2024, at the Golden City Park.

Stephen Amankona’s well-taken goal on the cusp of halftime gave Berekum Chelsea a 1-0 lead. However, Medeama fought back in the second half and were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute, which Mubarik Yussif calmly converted to level the score.

In a thrilling finale, Zakaria Fuseini struck in the ninth minute of added time, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory for Chelsea and sending the home crowd into jubilation.

Despite the crucial win, Boadu expressed his frustration over the standard of refereeing in a candid post-match interview. He openly criticized the officiating and stated he was unconcerned about potential sanctions from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“I’m satisfied with the three points, but the officiating was really bad. I don’t usually complain about refereeing, but this time, I must. The FA can sanction me; I don’t mind. We all talk about the beauty of the game, but how can football be beautiful with this level of officiating?” he lamented.

Boadu further vented his frustration and issued a warning about the potential consequences of poor refereeing in Ghana football.

“I don’t want to know the names of the referee and his assistants, but if they continue officiating like this, they will collapse Ghana football,” he added.

The win moved the 2011 champions to 22 points from 17 games, placing them 10th in the league standings as they concluded the first round of the season.
