Ghanaian football administrator, Samuel Anim Addo has defended the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Legacy Rise Sport, Sharaf Mahama, amid criticisms about his source of income.

The son of President John Dramani Mahama has supported and elevated the standards of boxing in Ghana through his agency, which organizes global bouts.

The boxing promoter hosted the ‘Battle of the Beasts’ event at the Bukom Boxing Arena before ‘The Showdown’ bout at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on December 20, 2025.

Following these events, some individuals raised questions about Sharaf’s source of income and how he was able to organize such large international competitions.

In response, Anim Addo condemned the criticisms, describing them as politically motivated agenda intended to tarnish the image of both the promoter and President Mahama.

“Some people around also wanted to push an agenda. It’s okay, we understand it. But moving forward, I don’t like it when people attack Sharaf just because his father is a president.”

“That’s totally uncalled for. It is highly unprofessional and highly negative. This is someone who started following boxing early on. He was in boxing, he trained, he played football, and some of us guided him through the beginning of his boxing journey,” he told Citi Sports.

The football administrator added that, “At that time, he was already in a position and still investing, supporting some of our boxers. So if the young man’s father is the president now and he’s doing marvelously well, what he has done has taken Ghana to another level.”

“I want to tell everyone who wants to use this to play politics against him to stop. He has put Ghana on the map. Ghanaian boxers were able to showcase themselves. Although we didn’t get everything we wanted, I believe in the technical team around him.”
