Ghanaian filmmaker, Gloria Sarfo, has shared her opinion on the ongoing debate stemming from the recent ‘back and forth’ between the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam George, and the MultiChoice Group over the reduction of DSTV prices.

In a discussion on GhanaWeb‘s X Space aired on September 12, 2025, Gloria Sarfo noted that even though DSTV plays a pivotal role in promoting the film industry through the airing of movies on its platform, the movie industry will not collapse if it halts operations in the country.

“If Akwaaba Magic is not there, nothing will happen to the movie industry. The industry won’t be completely shut down,” she said.

Gloria Sarfo further noted that although the movie industry will still thrive without the presence of Akwaaba Magic, a lot of investment will however be lost.

According to her, Multichoice has rescued a lot of careers so far as far as filmmaking is concerned, hence if they cease operations in the country, the industry may struggle at some point but not fully.

“If we can put our industry together and make sure producers can get the project done… We may not even need such platforms before we are heard and show our work. If Akwaaba Magic is no more here, the industry will still go on, but we will lose to some extent. Because they have rescued us at some point,” she added.
