Ruben Amorim is the manager of Manchester United
Coach Ruben Amorim has announced that his immediate ambition as Manchester United manager is to guide the club back into European competition, despite a turbulent start to the new Premier League season.
Since replacing Erik ten Hag in November 2024, Amorim has supervised one of the poorest stretches in the history of Manchester United.
However, in a conversation with former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves, the Portuguese coach stressed that returning to continental football remains non-negotiable for the club.
“I think we need to return to Europe, but the funny thing is that it’s hard for our fans to understand that. I don’t know what is going to happen, but my feeling is we are going to play better. If you watch the games closely, you can see we have the ability to win them,” Amorim said.

The words, however, come against a grim backdrop. United have endured one of their worst starts to the Premier League season ever.
Amorim’s men have just two wins in their first six Premier League games while suffering a second round elimination in the Carabao Cup.
United have won just 18 of 49 games since Amorim took over, the lowest win rate of any permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
