Up-and-comer Viddal Riley used his youthful speed and confidence to befuddle reigning European cruiserweight champion Mateusz Masternak, snatching his title and earning the IBF mandatory spot to challenge for the now vacant belt.
Riley had less than a quarter the pro experience of Masternak, who was in his second reign as European champ, but he more than made up for it with his quickness, angles and will to win. Masternak had few answers for Riley’s tactics, despite his toughness, which did little to garner him points in the end. The judges saw it: 119-109 and 118-110 twice for the new European cruiserweight champion and now 14-0, 7 KOs. Masternak has had a long career with multiple world title opportunities, now sits as 50-7, 33 KOs.
