It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton at his home in Manchester. Hatton had recently announced a ring comeback, planned for December. Hatton had been candid about his own substance abuse and mental health struggles. Hatton shocked the boxing world when he stopped IBF 140 lb. champ Kostya Tszyu, when Tszyu opted to not come out for round 12. Hatton immediately followed that up with a KO9 over Carlos Maussa, snagging the WBA crown at the same weight in the process. Hatton then moved up to welterweight and took the WBA title from champion Luis Collazo. He was honored as fighter of the year in 2005. He lost his two mega-fights via stoppage, to Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Three years later, in 2012, Hatton lost his final match via KO9 to foromer WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko. He finished his career at 45-3, 32 KOs. Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances. Hatton was 46 years old.
