Renowned musician and presidential staffer Rex Omar has publicly weighed in on President John Dramani Mahama’s landmark decision to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.

In a series of posts on his Facebook page on September 1, 2025, Rex Omar underscored the rule of law, stating: “In a country that’s governed by the rule of law, NO ONE is above the law! Not even the PRESIDENT.”

In another post, where he shared a copy of the dismissal letter, Omar captioned it, “Double punch! No ambiguity!”

Here is why Chief Justice Torkonoo was removed

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Ghana’s third female Chief Justice since June 2023, was removed following a constitutional inquiry.

The dismissal, announced on September 1, 2025, came after a high-profile investigation into alleged misconduct by the Chief Justice, who strongly rejected the accusations as unfounded and politically motivated.

The process followed constitutional protocols, including a referral to a five-member committee as outlined under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
