Matthew Amoah was a striker of the Black Stars play videoMatthew Amoah was a striker of the Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association’s official page set the tone today, October 24, 2025, with a simple but heartfelt birthday message: “Wishing our former forward Matthew Amoah a happy birthday!”

But for fans who witnessed his brilliance in the famous Ghana jersey, Matthew Amoah’s story deserves more than a tweet.

As the former Black Stars striker turns 45 today, we take a moment to relive his unforgettable journey, one marked by hard work, humility, and goals that helped shape Ghana’s football history in the 21st century.

Amoah made his international debut in 2002 at the age of 21 against Egypt. Though Ghana lost 2–0 that day, the young forward went on to become one of the team’s most trusted goal-scorers for Ghana in the 2000s.

Between 2002 and 2011, Amoah earned 45 caps for the Black Stars and scored 12 goals.

He was pivotal in Ghana’s qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, scoring crucial goals that helped the nation secure a spot at its first-ever appearance on football’s biggest stage.

Amoah went on to play in all four matches in 2006 World Cup as the Black Stars reached the Round of 16 before bowing out to Brazil.

He later featured again at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, contributing to another proud chapter in Ghana’s history.
