Reggie Rockstone Reveals Why He Didn’t Suffer Growing Up

Reggie Rockstone has revealed that his path into the music industry was not shaped by financial struggles during his childhood, as he grew up in a financially secure home.

The veteran artiste made the revelation during a podcast conversation with Nana Aba Anamoah, as he reflected on his early years and the challenges he encountered while building a career in music.

Reggie said his family was well-positioned financially while he was growing up, giving him access to many of the things he needed and wanted. He also credited his father for encouraging his musical ambitions from an early stage.

According to him, his father went as far as building a studio for him and his siblings, giving them a space where they could develop their interest in music without having to struggle for basic resources.

“My story is uniquely different from a lot. I always say that I didn’t suffer. Growing up, we were financially stable. My dad was so proud of his son, so I got whatever I wanted,” he said.

Reggie explained that his comfortable upbringing also influenced his return to Ghana after spending time abroad. He said he came back home carrying what he called the “dadabee flex”, but the reality of trying to establish himself as a musician had already exposed him to a different kind of struggle.

“He even built a studio for us down the street so I didn’t go through hardship. When I came back home from abroad, I brought the dadabee flex to the house. The time I suffered in the music industry was when I was abroad,” he disclosed.

The musician recalled how difficult it was to gain recognition during his early days in the industry, particularly at a time when rap was attracting a growing number of young talents.

He said the increasing popularity of rap meant that aspiring rappers were competing for limited opportunities, making it difficult for newcomers to immediately command attention.

“At that time, I was new to the industry and the competition wasn’t easy. Rap was so productive and everyone wanted to be a rapper,” he recounted.

Reggie also spoke about the less glamorous side of his early career, revealing that he sometimes had to remain backstage while bigger names took centre stage.

“I was always left backstage when the big artistes were performing on stage,” he stated.

Reggie, however, considers those experiences an important part of the story behind his career. Although he acknowledges the difficulties he encountered while trying to establish himself abroad, he insists that his experience cannot be compared to the severe financial hardships faced by some other artistes.

“After all of this, it’s a beautiful journey; it’s necessary, but just that I can’t say about the hardship because I didn’t go through that,” he added.
