Onyedika (L) and his coach (R) got into a heated argument

Midfielder Raphael Onyedika’s first Champions League goal of the season on Thursday, September 18, 2025, was supposed to be the highlight of his night, but the evening took a tense turn between him and his coach.

The Nigerian international scored in Club Brugge’s 4-1 win against AS Monaco. With the game already wrapped up, head coach Nicky Hayen opted to hand 21-year-old midfielder Lynnt Audoor some valuable minutes, substituting Onyedika in the 81st minute.

But instead of celebrating the team’s dominant display, Onyedika’s reaction stole the spotlight.

The Super Eagles midfielder walked straight to the bench, visibly displeased, refusing to acknowledge Audoor as he entered the pitch.

His cold reaction shocked many, especially considering the comfortable scoreline and the upbeat mood in the Brugge camp.

Hayen did not let the matter slide. Speaking after the match, the coach was clear with his disappointment in the Nigerian.

“You should be supporting the young guy who’s coming on, shouldn’t you? It’s a positive evening, so you can’t spoil it. Because we’re not just eleven, but 20 or 25 players.”
