Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent, ending his contract early with 18 months remaining on his £325,000-per-week deal.

The 31-year-old departs after three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge, having joined from Manchester City in 2022 for £47.5m. Chelsea thanked Sterling for his contribution and wished him well for the next stage of his career.

Sterling made 81 appearances for the Blues, scoring 19 goals, but had not played competitively since May 2024.

He spent the last months training separately with Chelsea’s second team after failing to secure a transfer last summer.

Clubs including Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen showed interest, while a potential move to Fulham fell through. Sterling, who debuted at Liverpool and has won 13 trophies overall, is reportedly keen to stay in London but is open to moves elsewhere.

Sterling’s Chelsea spell began with promise. His £325,000-a-week deal in 2022 was part of Todd Boehly’s statement of intent, overseen by Thomas Tuchel.

But Chelsea underwent multiple managerial changes, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Mauricio Pochettino, before Enzo Maresca effectively ended Sterling’s role in the first team. He spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Arsenal, making just 13 starts and scoring once in the EFL Cup.

Despite recent setbacks, Sterling remains a proven winner with five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and five League Cups.
