The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has issued a call to action for consumers of water and electricity in Ashanti Region, reminding them of their obligations to settle bills promptly and adhere to rules governing these essential services.

This will allow utility providers to maintain and improve service quality for consumers.

The appeal is part of PURC’s ongoing efforts to ensure sustained quality service delivery by utility service providers in the region.

PURC Ashanti Regional Manager, Edward Boduah, in a press release, emphasised consumers’ critical role in the sustainability of water and electricity services.

“For utility providers to maintain and improve their services, consumers must fulfil their obligations – including timely payment of bills. When consumers fail to meet their payment obligations it strains the utility providers’ ability to deliver quality services, ultimately affecting everyone,” part of the statement read.

PURC’s appeal highlights the importance of a mutually beneficial relationship between consumers and utility providers.

By paying their bills on time and adhering to service rules, consumers enable utility providers to invest in infrastructure, improve service delivery and expand coverage to meet the population’s growing needs.

Boduah further expressed PURC’s commitment to working with Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and consumers to ensure water and electricity services in Ashanti Region and across the country remain reliable and affordable.

The Regional Manager then encouraged consumers to report any issues with service delivery to the Commission so they can be addressed promptly.

Boamah further reminded consumers to be vigilant about their consumption and payment habits, as these actions directly impact the quality of service they receive.

By working together, PURC, utility providers and consumers can ensure that water and electricity services continue to meet the needs of Ashanti Region’s growing population.
