    Public urged to take note of road blocks on Jan. 7

    Some roads around Osu will be closed for the inauguration of President-Elect Mahama Some roads around Osu will be closed for the inauguration of President-Elect Mahama

    Co-spokesperson of the NDC transition team, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has informed the public about planned traffic restrictions for the inauguration of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama.

    As part of security measures for the swearing-in ceremony of President Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu announced in a press conference, Saturday, January 4, 2025 that some roads around Osu will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The affected roads will reopen for public use shortly after the event.

    The motoring public are hereby entreated to take note of the following roads within Accra to be closed temporarily:

    1. 28th February Road, from the CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction.

    2. Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on Lokko Street.

    3. Castle Road, from the AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light.

    4. Scarlet 21 Road at the Ministries’ Intersection.

    Traffic Diversions:

    Traffic from La, Labone, and Osu heading toward the central business district via 28th February Road will be diverted at Salem Avenue Traffic Light and Castle Traffic Light, connecting to Oxford Street.

    Traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street heading to Black Star Square will be redirected to Liberia Road at the CEPS Headquarters Traffic Light and the National Theatre Traffic Light intersection.

    Motorists on Lokko Street heading to Castle Road should use Ajumako Street and Oxford Street.

    Traffic from the AU Circle toward Castle Road through Osu Cemetery will be diverted onto Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads, connecting to Abdul Nassir Gamel Road near the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

    Car Park Arrangements:

    All attendees are advised to take note of the following designated parking areas:

    The field space behind the Independence Arch at Black Star Square.

    The forecourt of the State House.

    Access Bank Car Park.

    Osu Cemetery Car Park.

    Vacant spaces along the Ministries area.

    Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park.

    Marine Drive Football Park.

    Afua Sutherland Car Park.

    Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that unauthorized parking will not be permitted. All vehicles entering Black Star Square must display permit stickers, which will be inspected by security personnel.

    “Traffic police officers will assist motorists with diversions and finding appropriate car parks. Towing services will be on standby to remove abandoned, broken-down, or illegally parked vehicles. Parking in unauthorized areas is highly likely to result in your car being towed,” he cautioned.
