There is a reason paint dries from the outside in. From afar, my life looks like a canvas kissed by

success. An artist who travels. A curator of fine things. A man who stands beside dignitaries,

leaders, and galleries filled with applause. They call me “talented,” “creative,” “international.”

    And I smile. Sometimes.

But let me take you behind the frame. Let me walk you into the studio—not the gallery.

Because proximity reveals flaws. The Glare of the Spotlight, the Shadows Behind I remember one exhibition vividly. The room was filled with diplomats and collectors. Cameras clicked, wine glasses clinked. One of my pieces—a portrait layered in shredded papers and pain—stood proudly on the wall. A man walked up to it and said,

    “Beautiful. So clean… so effortless.”

Effortless? What he didn’t know was that I’d slept on the floor beside that canvas for four nights. That I cried

while painting it because I couldn’t afford to bury someone I loved. That I sold one painting to feed three families, and still slept hungry that week.

From a distance, art looks like decoration. Up close, it is documentation of survival. Brushstrokes of Betrayal and Becoming… Some who admired me later mocked me. Some who applauded my talent refused to pay my worth. They loved the shine, not the scars. They saw the artist, not the man. And perhaps, I let them. Because sometimes we polish ourselves for the world…

…while slowly cracking inside. But that’s the beauty of flaws—they’re not just weaknesses. They’re details. They make the story real. One brushstroke gone wrong doesn’t ruin the painting—it makes it human.

To the One Looking at Me from Afar

Dear dreamer, dear student, dear admirer—if you’re reading this and wishing for my stage, know that the spotlight burns as much as it glows. Know that not all gallery walls are welcoming. Know that behind every masterpiece is a mess. But also know this: I never stopped creating. Because even with my cracks—I am still the vessel.

Step Close, But Look Kindly … Today, I carry my journey like texture on canvas.

Not smooth. Not perfect. But mine. Let this story be a brush in your hand. If you feel flawed, forgotten, frustrated—step closer to your own reflection.

See the strength in your scars. See the art in your survival.

Because even the finest sculptures carry chisel marks. And the greatest artists? They aren’t

flawless. They’re just brave enough to show you the flaws up close.

Mr. Gyamfi Sammy, you are an artist meant to create more glory out of flaws as well…be strong…

Proximity reveals flaws—but also reveals truth.

    And truth… is always beautiful.
