Black Starlets coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says they are fully prepared and motivated ahead of their opening game at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana will begin their campaign on Thursday, May 14, as they make a return to the tournament for the first time in nine years with hopes of securing qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
Speaking ahead of the opening fixture, Ogum expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations and mentality in camp.
“The mood in camp is very positive and focused,” he told CAF Online. “The players understand the importance of representing Ghana at this level and they have shown great commitment throughout our preparations.”
The Black Starlets coach further revealed that the technical team has worked extensively to ensure the players are fully ready for the competition.
“We have worked very hard physically, tactically and mentally, and I believe the team is ready to compete,” he added.
The educationist also emphasized the players’ determination to make the nation proud when they face Algeria in their opening group game.
“The boys are motivated and eager to make Ghana proud in our opening game against Algeria,” he concluded.
The two-time African champions will be hoping to start the tournament strongly, with victory in the opener expected to significantly boost their chances of progressing to the next stage and securing a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The game is slated for tonight at 19:00GMT (7:00pm)
