Media personality Serwaa Amihere has called on the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, to invest more in promoting and marketing the Ghana Premier League, beyond just focusing on the various national teams.

She pointed out that the recent clash between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on May 4, 2025, recorded low attendance, a development that reflects poorly on the league.

The GHOne TV journalist advised Okraku to make the promotion of the local league a top priority, similar to how his administration markets the Black Stars, in order to make the Premier League more attractive.

“Dear Kurt Okraku, you have been President of the Ghana Football Association since 2019, and your biggest mantra was ‘Bring Back the Love.’ I support Kumasi Asante Kotoko, so our game against Hearts of Oak yesterday appeared frequently on my social media feeds.

“Shockingly, for Ghana’s biggest football game, I saw the attendance at the Accra Sports Stadium and was not impressed. Our biggest brand might be the Black Stars, but we cannot overlook the economic and social impact of having a well-organised and properly managed Ghana Premier League,” Serwaa wrote on X.

She further appealed to the GFA, saying, “Sir, please fix security at our stadiums, invest in marketing our game to attract fans, properly incentivise and remunerate match officials, improve our playing pitches, and make our league centres safe for families.”

The Kotoko–Hearts of Oak game ended goalless, with both teams missing chances that could have brought excitement to the match.

The poor attendance has sparked renewed concern over the marketing and declining appeal of the Ghana Premier League, with several football stakeholders calling for urgent reforms.
