The family of the late Professor Thomas Mba Akabzaa has officially informed President John Mahama of his passing during a courtesy call at the Presidency.

The delegation, led by former Works and Housing Minister Hon. Albert Abongo, included prominent figures such as Ing. William Amuna, Dr. Charles Abugre, and Hon. Charles Bawa Dua.

Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, representing the President, received the family and praised Prof. Akabzaa as a statesman who significantly contributed to Ghana’s energy and mining sectors.

He assured the family of the government’s full support in honoring the late professor’s legacy.

Energy Minister Hon. John Jinapor emotionally described Prof. Akabzaa as a father figure, recalling his unwavering guidance even during his final days in the hospital.

The family announced funeral arrangements, including a pre-burial wake and mass in Accra on December 10-11, 2025, before final rites in his hometown, Dua, in the Upper East Region.

The Akabzaa family expressed gratitude to the President for his commitment to celebrating the life of the distinguished patriot.
