There has been increasing concerns from sports personalities and political figures regarding Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu’s probe into the 13th All-African Games.

On November 4, 2024, President John Dramani Mahama directed the Auditor-General to undertake a forensic audit of all financial and operational aspects of the 13th African Games to ensure accountability.

It was indicated that the president gave the Auditor-General until the second week of December 2024 to submit the report for necessary action.

Why aren’t we asking every sector to make their budgets public? – Kurt Okraku questions

However, as of February 2026, there has been no update from the Auditor’s office regarding the probe as directed by the president.

This has triggered widespread criticisms from concerned sports personalities, who questioned the government’s resolve to ensure accountability and punish culprits.

Some football fans expressed disappointment at the slow pace of the investigations, noting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had promised during its campaign to hold corrupt officials accountable.

Others also argued that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative has not proven effective in the sporting sector, adding that they are losing hope in the fight against corruption.

While the 13th African Games earned praise for its spectacular organization, questions have persisted about how public funds were managed.

The controversy deepened when then-sports minister, Mustapha Ussif, told the Public Accounts Committee that the government had paid the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) over $3 million to broadcast the competition.

However, that claim was refuted by the GBC Director-General, who publicly denied that the state broadcaster had received such an amount.

The African Games forensic audit report should by now have been submitted to the Presidency. So where is it? The public deserves to know what… pic.twitter.com/gt3GTup16Z

Auditor General says the reports will be ready from next Friday….Meanwhile it shouldn’t take up to 4 months from the time charges are filed for the case to be heard in court! About three high profile cases have suffered this judicial delay! pic.twitter.com/DuJEY9EicT

@JDMahama accountability is what @SammyGyamfi_ @malik_basintale preached to us during the campaign time and that’s exactly what we are seeking for is almost more than a year now
