Kwasi Pratt Jnr and John Dramani Mahama

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said that President John Dramani Mahama will not yield to calls for a third term, describing such demands as misguided and harmful.

In a post shared on his X page on Monday, he noted that suggestions portraying President Mahama as the only person capable of leading the country are misplaced.

“These are the people who insist that without him, Ghana will collapse and that, to prevent that from happening, the 1992 Constitution should be amended to enable him to run for a third term. The point they make is that President John Dramani Mahama is the only one among the 32 million people of Ghana who has leadership qualities.

This is most certainly an insult to the people of Ghana, and the President Mahama I know will not encourage it,” he wrote.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr further noted that one of the hallmarks of a good leader is the ability to mentor others.

“The mark of a good leader is the ability to mentor others to follow in their path. President Mahama’s challenge is to prepare someone to take over his duties after he leaves office on January 7, 2029,” he added.

He warned that history shows leaders who attempt to deify their rule often end up in the “dustbin of rotten governance,” emphasising that the doctrine of divine rule has no place in modern governance in 2025.
