President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a high-level government delegation, led by Minister of Interior Mohamed-Mubarak Muntaka, to engage with the Yagbonwura, traditional leaders, and other key stakeholders in the Sawla-Bole area as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing Gbeniyiri conflict.

The initiative is part of the president’s broader peace-building agenda aimed at restoring calm and stability in the Savannah Region.

The delegation has been tasked with working closely with the Regional Security Council, traditional authorities, and community leaders to foster dialogue, mediate outstanding disputes, and reinforce law and order.

The visit was formally announced in a press statement issued on Sunday, August 31, 2025, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications.

The statement revealed that President Mahama, upon returning from a state visit to Singapore, was briefed by the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior on the escalating tensions in Gbeniyiri.

While abroad, the President held a phone conversation with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, during which they discussed practical steps to de-escalate the conflict and promote reconciliation between the Gonja and Brifor communities.

In response to the situation, security in the area has been strengthened with the deployment of additional police and military personnel, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives.

“President Mahama urges all parties to support the initiatives underway to end the conflict and restore normalcy,” Kwakye Ofosu said in the statement.
