President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 39th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
The high-level summit, taking place at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, brings together African leaders to deliberate on key continental issues, including economic development, governance, peace and security, and regional integration.
President Mahama is expected to spearhead and participate in a number of critical engagements during the summit. Among them are discussions on Reparations, Gender Equity, and Financial Inclusion—areas that have increasingly gained prominence within the Union’s development agenda.
As part of his official programme, President Mahama will co-host several high-level side events aimed at fostering dialogue and strengthening collaboration among member states and development partners. On Saturday, he is scheduled to host a special breakfast meeting focused on the Accra Reset initiative, themed “Addis Reckoning,” which is expected to provide a platform for reflection and renewed commitment to policy reforms and continental transformation.
In addition, the President will hold bilateral meetings with fellow African leaders and heads of multilateral organisations to discuss partnerships and shared priorities. He is also slated to participate in an Italy–Africa Forum, aimed at deepening cooperation between African nations and Italy in trade, investment, and sustainable development.
President Mahama is expected to return to Accra on Monday, 16 February.
