
PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama has granted presidential pardon to 863 convicted persons as part of activities to commemorate Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary.
The pardon covers first offenders, persons aged 70 years and above, seriously ill inmates and others serving life or death sentences, with some sentences commuted in line with the categories approved by the President.
The Presidency announced the decision in a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The statement said President Mahama exercised the prerogative of mercy in accordance with Article 72(1) of the 1992 Constitution, following consultation with the Council of State. Read More
