Sammy Flex, the Public Relations Officer for Dancehall musician Shatta Wale, has clarified the reason behind the unexpected power outage that occurred during the ShattaFest held on October 18, 2025.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on October 20, Sammy Flex explained that the blackout was not caused by any technical fault but was a “deliberate and strategic move” by the event organizers to control the crowd and prevent chaos.

“The team decided to let the place become a lobby because we realized some of the fans wanted to invade restricted areas. When fans get charged like that, if you are not strategic, most of them will do things they are not supposed to do,” he said.

He added that the brief pause in activities helped calm the overly excited crowd and provided relief for fans who were becoming exhausted.

“That particular break did the magic perfectly because that was the time Shatta was also coming. If that energy had continued, maybe we would have had more cases of people passing out,” he noted.

According to him, the Fire Service team also helped by spraying water on the crowd to reduce heat and tension.

“You couldn’t even go back to get water because you were stuck in that place,” he said.

He explained that the decision helped avert possible incidents and ensured safety.

The event, held in Accra, was a way for Shatta Wale to celebrate his birthday with his fans. The concert drew thousands of fans from across Ghana and featured high-energy performances from Shatta Wale and other acts including Sarkodie, Wendy Shay, Samini, Kelvynboy and other acts.
