The Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana has expressed profound grief over the sudden demise of the Catholic pontiff, Pope Francis, in Vatican and has assured of timely updates on related events.

In a statement released on April 21, 2025, the diplomatic mission of the Holy See in Ghana relayed the unfortunate news to the civil authorities, the Episcopal Conference, the clergy, the religious, and all the faithful in the country.

“It is with profound sorrow that the Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana announces to the civil authorities, the Episcopal Conference, the clergy, the religious, and all the faithful in Ghana, that His Holiness Pope Francis, peacefully passed away on Monday, 21 April 2025, at 7:35 am, on the liturgical feast of Easter Monday, at the Vatican,” the statement said.

The statement also highlighted the exemplary leadership, spiritual depth, and remarkable contributions of the late Pope Francis to humanity; the diplomatic mission assured of timely updates on liturgical commemorations in Ghana.

“Further information concerning liturgical commemorations and acts of homage in Ghana will be communicated in due course,” the statement said in part.

Passing of His Holiness Pope Francis

It is with profound sorrow that the Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana announces to the civil authorities, the Episcopal Conference, the clergy, the religious, and all the faithful in Ghana, that His Holiness Pope Francis, peacefully passed away on Monday, 21 April 2025, at 7:35 a.m., on the liturgical feast of Easter Monday, at the Vatican.

The Holy Father devoted his entire pontificate to the service of the universal Church, promoting the Gospel of mercy, fraternity, and peace. His pastoral leadership, spiritual depth, and tireless commitment to the dignity of every human person have left an indelible mark on the life of the Church and on humanity.

The Apostolic Nunciature invites all the Catholic faithful, people of goodwill, and members of other religious traditions in Ghana to join in prayer for the eternal repose of the soul of the late Pontiff, entrusting him to the loving embrace of the Risen Lord whom he served with humility and unwavering faith.
