Media personality and entertainment pundit, MC Yaa Yeboah has expressed her frustration with how politicians have treated the creative arts sector in Ghana.
In a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz on November 30, 2024, she accused politicians of disrespecting the sector while at the same time relying on it to spread their political messages.
She pointed out that politicians frequently use creative platforms to promote their agendas, citing how artistes like Nacee have successfully explained political manifestos in songs.
“For a long time, politicians have taken the creative arts sector for a ride. They have disrespected this sector.
“But the funny thing is, these politicians always run to the creative arts to trumpet their message… Look at how creative arts individuals like Nacee have been able to capture the manifestos of political parties in one song,” she said.
Yaa Yeboah also criticised the lack of significant representation of creative arts professionals in political appointments.
She pointed out that individuals with experience in the creative arts industry like Mark Okraku-Mantey and Dzifa Gomashie have only been appointed as deputies, limiting their ability to function independently under the constitution.
“These politicians can’t even respect us enough to make one of our own the creative arts minister. They only make people like Okraku-Mantey and Dzifa Gomashie deputies, and under the constitution, they can’t function without the permission of their bosses. Yet we always blame them because they’re the ones we are familiar with,” she lamented.
MC Yaa Yeboah highlighted the unfair treatment of the creative arts space and called for politicians to be straightforward when making promises to the sector.
