Ghanaian actor cum politician, John Dumelo

Newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo, has praised voters for their growing wisdom and discernment in choosing their leaders.

His statements follow a closely contested election against his opponent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Dumelo reflected on the strategies employed during the campaign and the increasing democratic maturity of the electorate.

He reiterated earlier allegations that Lydia Alhassan had attempted to sway voters with handouts, including food items, money, and even direct interaction with voters while they were in line to cast their ballots.

Despite these tactics, Dumelo said he attributes his victory to hard work and also the voter’s focus on meaningful representation rather than material inducements.

“Handouts don’t easily sway some voters; they make decisions based on policies and their current realities,” he stated.

The actor cum politician commended voters for prioritising long-term benefits and accountability over short-term incentives.

“The electorate’s discernment and integrity are truly commendable,” Dumelo said, emphasising that voters now value substantive policies and genuine leadership over superficial gestures.
