Ghana’s Police Ladies FC are gearing up for their debut in the 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, set to take place in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire on August 23, 2025.

Drawn into Group B following the Thursday morning draw, the Ghana Women’s Premier League champions will face a formidable challenge against Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens FC, Togo’s Association Sportive de La Kozah (ASKO), and Benin’s Sam Nelly.

Under the guidance of veteran coach Yussif Basigi, Police Ladies aim to make a strong impression in their first regional tournament as they vie for a spot in the prestigious CAF Women’s Champions League.

Police Ladies, fresh off their maiden Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, are stepping into the WAFU B qualifiers with high ambitions but a challenging group ahead.

Bayelsa Queens, the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League champions, bring experience and firepower, having previously won the WAFU B title in 2022 and competed in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Led by coach, Whyte Ogbonda and bolstered by key players like captain Blessing Ilivieda and Jennifer Oliver, Bayelsa are a formidable force.

Meanwhile, Togo’s ASKO, the 2024 Togolese champions, and Benin’s Sam Nelly, a rising side in their domestic league, add further unpredictability to Group B.

Coach Yussif Basigi, who previously guided Hasaacas Ladies to the 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League final, will rely on his tactical expertise to navigate this competitive group, with Police Ladies aiming to emulate the success of past Ghanaian representatives like Hasaacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa.

The qualifiers present a critical opportunity for Police Ladies to showcase their potential on the continental stage, but the road to qualification will be tough.

The tournament’s format sees the top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals, with the ultimate winner securing a place in the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League finals in November.
