The Ghana Police Service has provided an update on investigations into a domestic abuse complaint involving Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua Addo, after a video linked to the case circulated widely online.

According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Adobea petitioned the Director-General of the CID on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband, Harold Norman, had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.

The police said the latest complaint followed an earlier case involving the couple that had already come before the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Preliminary investigations revealed that DOVVSU at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations had handled a case involving the couple in July 2026.

DOVVSU is the specialised unit of the Ghana Police Service responsible for handling complaints involving domestic violence, child abuse and other forms of abuse within domestic and family settings.

The unit provides support to victims while investigating allegations and working to establish the circumstances surrounding reported incidents.

After receiving Nana Akua Addo’s petition in August, police proceeded with further investigations and arrested her husband.

Harold Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27, 2026, to assist with investigations.

The CID said a caution statement was subsequently obtained from him before he was granted police enquiry bail on August 29 with two sureties.

The bail did not bring the investigation to an end, as police continued gathering information and preparing the case for court.

Norman was scheduled to appear before the court on October 7, 2026. However, the planned appearance did not take place after his lawyer informed the police that he had been admitted to hospital.

The CID said DOVVSU investigators have since visited the hospital to verify the claim.

Police are also monitoring the situation and have indicated that Norman will be arraigned immediately after his discharge.

The development comes as a video connected to the domestic abuse allegations involving Nana Akua Addo has attracted significant attention online.

While the video has generated public discussion, the police statement places the incident within a broader investigation that began before the footage gained widespread attention.

The allegations made by Nana Akua Addo remain subject to investigation and due process. They have not been established as proven facts by a court.

Alongside the criminal investigation, the CID said it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure that social welfare services are provided to Nana Akua Addo and the children involved.

The involvement of social welfare authorities reflects the wider implications that domestic abuse cases can have on children and other members of a household.

Beyond determining whether criminal offences were committed, authorities may also have to consider the safety, welfare and support needs of those affected by the situation.

The CID has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Ghana Police Service are investigated professionally and fairly.

The latest police account provides a timeline of the Nana Akua Addo case, from the earlier DOVVSU intervention in July, to her petition to the CID in August, the subsequent arrest and bail of her husband, and the latest delay in his court appearance.

For now, investigators say the case remains active, with DOVVSU monitoring the hospital admission and preparing to proceed with the court process once Norman is discharged.
