A coalition of youth groups in Tamale, Concerned Youth Groups in the Tamale Metropolis have warned that it will not tolerate alleged plans to exclude the names of Tamale Mayor candidates, Hardi Pagazaa and Abu Takoro from the list of shortlisted candidates prepared by the Northern Regional vetting committee.

The coalition says it is suspecting foul play in the process, saying that “a non-transparent vetting and selection process erodes public confidence and can lead to the appointment of individuals who may not not represent the best interests of the community”.

The group claims that its sources within the vetting committee say some of its members are plotting to exclude the names of the two from the list to be presented to the appointing authority.

The coalition of youth groups in Tamale accused the vetting committee vetting committee of conniving with some top party pwople in the region, to submit the names of three persons who the coalition claims did not perform well at the committee and breached some of the rules of the committee.

The youth groups claimed that “All aspirants were directed to apply through their various constituencies within a stipulated time period. In the case of the Northern Region and the Tamale Metropolis for that matter, applicants who initially submitted applications to the Regional Party Office weres asked by the Regional Secretary Mohammed Abdul Salaam to send the applications to their respective constituencies. Ironically, some other applicants such as the Regional Communication Officer Mohammed Sulemana (Agitator) and the Regional Organizer Baba Zee, who never applied through their respective constituencies, Tamale South and Tamale Central respectively and outside the stipulated time frame found their way through vetting.”

“Amazingly, the Regional Organizer Baba Zee, an aspirant sat in as a panel for 15 districts being privy to all the questions asked and assessments by panel post vetting. All these breaches were ignored by the Regional Executives and other members of the vetting committee” they alleged.

A statement jointly signed some seven youth groups including 2-Y Yellow Yellow Drivers, State House Group and Azorka Boys, Lamashegu, the coalition said either of the two are best for the position of Tamale Mayor.

“Our sources close to the vetting committee indocate, Hon Abu Takoro, Hon Iddrisu Hardi Pagazaa and two other aspirants topped the scorecard after the vetting” it claimed.

The statement added that “This endorsement is based on their impressive track records, competence, experience and maturity in leadership.”
