A four-year-old child was killed after reportedly suffering an electric shock from a clothes dryer while playing inside a Kansas home.
The tragedy unfolded at a residence in Savonburg on Thursday evening and involved a 220-volt dryer, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a report of a child who was not breathing shortly after 9.30pm on August 6.
At that point, the child’s parents were already racing their unconscious youngster to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
The child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have not revealed the child’s name or gender, and it remains unclear how the dryer allegedly delivered the fatal shock.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office said it was continuing to investigate but did not believe anyone had deliberately harmed the child.
‘No foul play is suspected at this time, and it appears to have been a tragic accident,’ the department said.

The sheriff’s office offered its condolences to the child’s family and everyone affected by the death, including dispatchers, first responders and hospital workers.
Local outlet KWCH reported that the incident happened while the child was playing inside the residence.
No further details about the dryer, its condition or the circumstances surrounding the apparent electrical malfunction have been released.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission advises families to use properly installed outlet covers and tamper-resistant receptacles to help reduce the risk of electrical shock to children.
Federal safety guidelines also recommend parents use child-protective devices that cannot be easily removed and are designed to reduce access to energized outlets and electrical components.
