Teachers and students of Pitiku RC and MA Basic School in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region are threatening to stage a demonstration if the Ministry of Education and government fails to address the infrastructure deficit in the school.
A windstorm on September 10, 2024, took part of the school structure down including its roof a situation which has forced the teachers to merge some classes.
According to Citi News sources, the students who have been left stranded under the mercy of the sun and rain are also at risk of attacks from reptiles and other stray animals who defecate in the open classrooms the students are currently occupying.
The school with over 400 student population size currently needs an infrastructure overhaul as it can only boost of only five trained teachers, with two manning the Junior High School and the remaining three taking charge of the basic level.
One of the teachers who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity revealed how his colleague teachers are declining postings to the school due to the dire infrastructure deficit.
The Assemblyman for Pitiku Electoral Area Joseph Akrofi Kubi who re-echoed the immediate need for infrastructure support called on the government and other benevolent organizations to support the school.
