Award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician Piesie Esther has opened up about the collaborative effort that produced her hit single Nyame Ye, crediting highlife star Kuami Eugene with adding the “missing link” to the song.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Piesie hitmaker revealed that although she had written most of the lyrics, she sensed the track needed an extra spark that only Kuami Eugene could provide.

“While recording, I just knew the song needed a Kuami Eugene effect,” she recounted. “I called him, and he scheduled a session for me. I went and sang my rehearsed lines on Nyame Ye, and immediately, he knew the missing factor. He chipped in some lines and added his unique touch, and I just knew we had created magic.”

According to Piesie Esther, Eugene’s input transformed the record, injecting energy, polish, and a memorable hook that elevated it to a masterpiece. “What impressed me most was his instinctive understanding of what the record lacked, as well as the production effect and hook to make it stand out,” she said.

She also praised the “Wish Me Well” singer for his professionalism, noting that he worked with her seamlessly even while travelling internationally. “That’s when I realized that music writing is not just about talent; it comes with its own special grace,” she added.

Touching on the often-debated topic of secular artistes writing for gospel musicians, Piesie Esther emphasised that songwriting transcends genre boundaries. “It takes the grace of God for one to be blessed with such talent,” she remarked.

Her comments have drawn praise from fans who say her openness highlights the power of collaboration across genres in Ghana’s music industry.
