An elderly woman who was tragically killed when she was hit by a car has been named and pictured by police.

Sheena McKerrell, 81, was out walking in Haworth, West Yorkshire, yesterday when a vehicle ploughed into her at around 5.35pm.

The OAP was pronounced dead at the scene as horrified witnesses watched on.

A man, 23, stopped and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail.

Local councillor Rebecca Poulsen told The Telegraph and Argus that witnesses were left ‘shocked and upset’.

Cllr Poulsen said: ‘My first thoughts are with the lady who tragically passed and her family and friends.

‘I’d like to pass on my thanks to the emergency services and residents who helped give emergency aid. It must have been quite distressing for them.’

‘The people who were present were shocked and upset.
