A dog walker who died in a hit and run just two days before Christmas has been named and pictured.

Police have launched a hunt for the male driver of a ‘noticeably damaged’ blue car after it collided with Aaron Jones in a small Welsh village yesterday.

The incident, which took place in a small country lane in Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire, saw the victim left with unsurvivable injuries.

Following the crash, which took place between 6.45pm and 7.45pm on December 23, police have issued an appeal for any potential witnesses to come forward.

Dyfed-Powys Police is asking for those who have information or dashcam footage of the car in question at around the time of the incident to get in touch.

Specialist officers are supporting Mr Jones’s family after the Christmas tragedy.

Local councillor Bryan Davies said the village was ‘so quiet’ following his ‘tragic’ death.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a car in the village of Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire. The car left the scene, and officers are now searching for the driver.

‘Police are particularly interested in speaking to the male driver of a blue coloured vehicle that has noticeable damage to it.

‘Sadly, a man has died as a result of his injuries. Family liaison officers are supporting his family.

‘The collision happened near to Caer Salem Baptist Chapel at somewhere between 6.45pm and 7.45pm on Monday, 23 December as the man was walking his dog.

‘Officers have established that the vehicle involved was travelling northbound through Llanpumsaint at the time of the collision.

‘They are appealing for the driver, and anyone with information about the incident, to come forward – particularly anyone in the area around the relevant times with dashcam footage.

‘The road is currently closed and is likely to remain closed for some time while enquiries continue.

‘Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police.’
