Despite her significant role as the GFP’s flagbearer for the upcoming December 7 general elections, the event surprisingly saw the absence of many top politicians.

Given her status, it was expected that prominent figures would attend to pay their respects.

However, since there are just days left until the elections, most political heavyweights appear to be busily engaged in campaigning across the country.

Notably, Hon. Francisca Oteng Gyasi, Member of Parliament for Kwabre East, and the National Democratic Congress’ Betty Mould Iddrisu were among the few high-profile attendees spotted at the ceremony.

Despite the absence of these politicians, scores of mourners, including locals and supporters of the GFP, turned up to honor the memory of Akua Donkor, whose unexpected passing left the nation in shock.

She died on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 83, following a brief illness.

Akua Donkor’s death came at a critical time, as she was set to represent the GFP in the December elections.

Following her demise, the party nominated Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, as her replacement. However, he was disqualified by the Electoral Commission, leaving the GFP without a presidential candidate.
