Ernestina Akosua Brimpomaa, sister to the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has publicly accused the funeral committee managing his final rites with focusing on money rather than the truth surrounding his death.

Speaking on United Television’s “United Showbiz” on October 18, 2025, Brimpomaa claimed that when she enquired what exactly caused her brother’s dramatic health breakdown and subsequent death, the response was silence, while those involved concentrated solely on funeral logistics and the late artiste’s properties.

“I and my brother had spoken three days before his death. I knew he had diabetes, but it wasn’t the deadly type. So, what happened that he degenerated to that level?… Whenever I go and ask what killed my brother, they won’t answer; all they care about is money,” she lamented.

She criticised the funeral committee of what she described as a “money-driven” agenda, saying they were using the services and arrangements around the late musician more as a source of benefit than as a tribute.

“People are squabbling over my brother’s money and property without even knowing how he died,” she said.

Brimpomaa also called for an autopsy report and a more open process.

She warned that unless the truth is uncovered and shared, the disputes over wealth and assets would continue to overshadow her brother’s legacies.

    What happened?

In a formal statement dated October 13, 2025, his widow, Akosua Serwah Fosuh, and his elder sister, Ernestina Fosuh, said they had grown “deeply concerned” by “conflicting accounts” of how the 60-year-old musician died on July 26, 2025.

The family claims they have yet to see a full autopsy report and are asking for a transparent, independent investigation involving Ghanaian and German authorities.

Adding to the tension is a dispute over funeral arrangements and estate management. The widow and elder sister say the funeral committee is driven by financial motives rather than respect for the late artiste’s legacy.

They claim they were not properly consulted, and that disagreements around his properties and monies are overshadowing questions about how he died.

Daddy Lumba was born on September 29, 1964, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and passed away on July 26, 2025. He was widely celebrated for his contributions to Highlife music, with a career spanning almost four decades.

His passing triggered an outpouring of tributes nationally and internationally; however, the subsequent uncertainty around the circumstances of his death has turned a mourning period into an institutional and familial drama.
