Paul Pogba‘s Monaco contract is ‘set to be terminated’ after the 33-year-old suffered a fresh injury.
The French World Cup winner and former Manchester United star had been trying to revive his career following a doping ban.
But his time at Monaco in Ligue 1 has been disastrous and pre-season this summer was seen by the club as crucial in determining whether he could contribute.
He played 45 minutes in one game before a recurrence of a knee injury last season kept him out of four matches.
And now he has collapsed in severe pain in his leg during a training session, accelerating Monaco’s decision to terminate his contract, according to L’Equipe and Nicemartin.com.
Pogba only returned to training last week but sustained the thigh injury in a small-sided game and was scheduled for an MRI this week.

The club will now try and reach an agreement with Pogba and his representatives over paying out his deal, which expires next summer.
Daily Mail Sport understands he was offered to MLS clubs in America on Tuesday.
Pogba – who earned £290,000-per-week in his second spell at Man United – is reportedly earning below £44,000-per-week at Monaco.
Pogba was allowed back into football in March 2025 after his doping ban was reduced on appeal.
He had already left Juventus after having that contract terminated by mutual consent in December 2024.
Monaco was his route back into the game but he only managed to play in six matches last term due to persistent injury problems.
It remains to be seen whether Pogba will try to find a new club or decide the time is right to hang up his boots.
Pogba was emotional when he signed for Monaco last summer, describing his comeback as a second chance after what he called ‘a time of darkness’.
The midfielder told Daily Mail Sport in 2024 that he discovered news of his reduced ban while preparing for a film premiere, adding: ‘We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it.’
