In a recent interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola spoke on what she perceived as the decline in the quality of Nollywood actors over the years.

She spoke about the drop in passionate actors who value perfecting their crafts and telling compelling, moving stories, to the rise of actors who prioritize looks above all else.

Comparing the current Nollywood to the time she started acting, the actress pointed out how there has been a decline, a loss of passion in actors, pointing to the rise of actresses who get BBLs as a symptom of this problem.

Now actors, no longer give it their all, sacrificing their blood, sweat and tears to create something unique like those in her generation once did, but focusing primarily on appearances, glitz, and glamour, causing the craft to suffer for it.

    In her words,

    “The passion is gone,

When we started, when we joined the industry, it was passion driven.

How much were people being paid, It wasn’t a lot of money, but the passion to just make a difference, to do something that you felt was your reason for being.

Every person we met was on that same level of passion, even the whole auntie Joke, auntie Shola, all of them were so passioniate about the work.”

    The comments,

@shuqrah__t I miss the golden era of Nollywood. The raw talent, authentic English and captivating storylines were just flawless 👌🏼.

@ebychytoo When everyone is now a producer what do you expect.. One day YouTube go explode.. Nkapi TV, Ochicha TV, Oke TV, Ngwere TV , Aguiyi TV, Okeite TV.. It’s just a lot😂😂🤣🤣

@teeto__olayeni I admire this woman soooo much, she got so much poise and class🥰🥰🥰🥰

@ehiieta She’s very correct! You’ll be seeing an actress for the first time and it’s with bbl 😂

@VivienBraide Thats why the veteran actors were better in acting and could pull off a flawless stage performance, also putting themselves in character in no time.

@miss__socrates Thing is , nollywood doesn’t pay them enough, never did , they all were in it for the fame, cos with the fame comes endorsement and money, but now, they don’t really need to act to be famous, there’s an easy way out. Get a bbl, create contents etc

    The interview,
